The teaching resource used is Scholastic Story Starters

Who should this digital teaching resource be used with? (ie year/grade)

This teaching resource can be used for all primary students from K-6, although I have chosen Primary School students year 2. Year 2 Students are students is the year I feel that begins their short story writing skills.

How should it be used? (e.g. individual, whole class)

The way this resource is to be used is individually it allows the student to be creative and chose his or her own story. Story writing can be done individually to build more knowledge in skills.

Which subject or learning area would it be most appropriate to use in?

This is resource is mainly solely used for English literacy, this helps with story writing and help students to be creative while doing English literacy.

Identify the strengths of this teaching resource

The strengths of this resource is that it is easy to be accessed used whether in class or at home. There are many options for the students to choose from, from the theme, style and length of writing. These stories can be downloaded and saved or printed. It is a very efficient resource.

Identify any weaknesses of this teaching resource

It is limited and repetitive from the stories that can be created and the drawing materials are very simple and basic. There are only four themes that the kids can choose from which can bore the kids.

Explain any ideas you may have for further use of this teaching resource

A teacher can use this resource in class, it can be a class story writing time and the teacher can determine the different level of the children’s literacy skills.

It can be set as homework, a student has to return to school with a short story printed and stuck in their homework book.

Story Starter is great for children who are weak when it comes to creating ideas when it comes to writing a story. Story Starter is fun and creative which can help children to write and draw stories while using technology. Its fun as the kids don’t know what they are writing about until they either spin each of the four themes until they have chosen what they would like to write about or they the children can decide to take a chance and spin it once and get a random story created to write about.

i found this program to be fun and interesting, you just don’t know what your going to be writing next and it helps kids practice in the writing skills. Once the kids are done, they can either print it or save it for their parents or teachers to look over.

This is fun and creative way of beginning a story that be so amazing.

Who should this digital teaching resource be used with? (ie year/grade)

This teaching resource can be used for all primary students from K-6, although I have chosen Primary School students year 2. They have been classified the Orange year.

How should it be used? (e.g. individual, whole class)

The way this resource is used, a teacher will have to sign up for their own account and each student will need their own account. Once all students have joined and activated their own accounts by either their teacher or the student’s parents, the teacher will assign tasks to be done either at home or in class. This can be set as fun homework for students, or activities to be done in class instead of worksheets.

Which subject or learning area would it be most appropriate to use in?

This is resource provides subject such as Mathematics, Literacy, Science, Art, Music, Mastering Numeracy, health safety and citizenship and language and culture. The one I have used in this resource is Mathematic Numbers & Place value and English Spelling as I seek most appropriate.

Identify the strengths of this teaching resource

The strengths of this resource is that its easily accessible and results are provided straight away. It is fun and very visual with audio that the kids would enjoy while learning actively.

Identify any weaknesses of this teaching resource

The weakness is that kids may be able to cheat at home and get the parents to do the work that will not make the results as efficient as they should be.

Explain any ideas you may have for further use of this teaching resource

Further ideas I have that students can choose which activity they like to do for any subject they like, students will be able to browse the resource and learn more from the system. We can also have class competitions and have a Study Ladder champion.

Digital fluency involves the ability to have specific knowledge, skills and dispositions such as knowing the different types of technologies, programs and systems. Teachers should have significance in developing a proficient level of digital fluency to teach their students to help them gain the skills and knowledge before entering secondary schooling. It is important for teachers in today’s society to have proficient knowledge about the technology to help with their with their teaching, examples of digital skills can be simple as using computer, web browsing, iPads, eBooks and Apps to help children learn the school curriculum. Dell Latitude 2100 netbook computers are deisgned for school use.

The way we can help the children   develop digital fluency in the classrooms is to make the digital technology available for both the teachers and students. Teachers can allow the children to trial and error digital programs by giving them a task either on a webpage or application that will help them builds skills while learning exactly what is in the curriculum. It is still important to give the children structure while using digital but allowing them to have the feeling of freedom. I see through my three younger siblings how much they loved doing their homework when it came to using the computer for example using mathletics to do their maths homework. This online website allows to the teachers to still monitor how children are doing with their scores and where they went wrong to help them help the student in areas they are week.maxresdefault

Digital fluency is important for both teachers and children, it is important to explore the potential learning resources to gain more skills and knowledge. Also children do develop a sense of accomplishment and empowerment when they can create and control the objects around them (Huffaker, 2004). Students can work individually, pairs or in groups using digital programs that teachers create either on the web for students use by a computer, tablet or an iPad. An environment where everyone is learning together and from each other acknowledges that students can therefore teach to by being more creative with their works.

The digital identity is information and data about yourself that you have created to share through digital technologies, this can be from your social media account, to the photos you have uploaded, a blog you have written or the business you have created and shared online. Those information or data shared becomes permanent on the Internet and it embraces an individual’s or a group’s identity. I, myself love social media, I am a person who frequently uses Facebook and Instagram, the photos I upload and the status I share emphasis who I am as a person and how my friends or followers or the public audience perceive me as a person. I am curious and aware of what I upload or share online, as there is a lot of personal information like your address, work information or any misbehaviour or rude opinionated posts that you don’t want it to be permanently stuck on the social media. I have full control of what I share online and what is available for the public audience to see.

As a growing teacher I find it is very important to be careful what you share online that can be easily accessed by any of your students, parents, colleagues and higher executors to be seen in any wrong kind of way. You don’t want to give any personal information or any reason why anyone would question your teaching skills by the identity you have perceived online. Our digital tattoo is similar to having an actual permanent tattoo on our skins, its much harder to remove when you decide you don’t it want no more then actually applying the tattoo. Digital tattoo is seen when your personal information and your own expression are added over time by and you and others through social media. Therefore I always remember whenever I share anything at all through social media, I make sure my digital tattoo is not offensive, or any information I wish not be there.

The digital world is growing rapidly each and everyday, now as I am entering the teaching world I need to acknowledge the importance of the rapid growth and the way I can communicate and educate the students through digital technologies. The digital pedagogy significance examines how we teach by using the skills we have learnt and developed in digital technology and uses those skills to motivate and educate our student with active results. Parents send their kids to school so they can be educated and grow skills to ensure that they are able to meet the demands of our current lifestyles and challenges. It is a very essential job for us teachers to ensure that children are equipped and educated for the challenges to come. Digital pedagogy is the attitude and the aptitude with digital technologies, so this means it’s the teacher’s willingness to use them in the classroom effectively and understand how and why they should be used. (Howell, 2012) I personally believe that all teachers should use technology in the classroom as it motivates the children to learn as all kids these days know how to and love to use technology. In today time, it is much easier for to teacher to access the use of technology in the classroom from use of computers and iPads that many of the schools provide. I see that the use of technology is much easier for teachers to use and assess their student as the answers and graphs are digitally provided. Tavia Wright from Oakstead Elementary shows and explains how teaching in today’s digital world is so easy for both students and teachers and how students look so motivated to learn and still use the teachers curriculum. Wright emphasises that each student is assessed on their own and she can see by the results provided which part the student is struggling so she can focus and work with each student individually to strengthen their weak points. Wright highly shows the definition of digital world and how we can use the digital world in our classrooms for our students today by embracing the tool of technology.

Digital is our future
